Zucchini me!

October 31, 2008

* 2 organic eggs
* 2 cups organic sugar
* 1/2 cup organic canola oil
* 1 tablespoon Vanilla
* 3 cups of organic grated zucchini
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 tablespoon cinnamon
* 3 1/2 cups organic flour

Beat eggs until light and foamy then add sugar, oil, heaping cups of grated zucchini and vanilla. Mix lightly, but well. Combine flour, salt, soda, baking powder and cinnamon. Add to egg-zucchini mixture. Stir until well blended; pour into two loaf pans (9″x5″x3″) . Bake in preheated 350ºF oven for about 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

*We most often make small cakes using non Teflon cupcake pans. To prevent sticking we use non bleached coffee filters to wipe the pans with Earth Balance organic spread, followed by organic flour, shaking off the excess flour. When using cupcake pans we cook for about 25 minutes or or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a non-Teflon wire rack and enjoy.

I really don’t actually measure much of the recipe as I add some of this and a little of that. Sometimes I’ll add a dash of organic pumpkin spice, sometimes a handfull of walnuts and/or raisins. Whatever suits my fancy at the moment. Yummy!

I do believe that from conception Stinky Couture™ has striven to set itself apart, to be unique in design, style and quality. I’ve often received questions from prospective customers asking what makes us different.. Many times it’s the details. The little things.. From the Stinky Couture™ label, to the unique styled stitch elastic casing, to the coordinating appliqués on the Stinky Couture™ soakers. The leg elastic is encased with either a zig zag stitch or a wave stitch. Not only did I choose these stitch styles to add a uniqueness, I found that these two stitches had an added benefit of additional elasticity. The soakers are each appliquéd with the coordinating fabric of the diaper and the serger thread is changed for each diaper soaker to match. Diapers with fabrics that have a directional pattern are always cut and center seamed at the crotch so that the designs can be enjoyed front and back. Stinky Couture™ truly believes in the importance of a stitch.

Expanding on the previous post, Stinky Couture™ continues in the direction of offering unique features to each product by including coordinating embroidery with appliqués on the backside of our soakers where appropriate. Some recent examples include an embroidered “Argg!” and appliquéd skulls to coordinate the Jolly Roger print, an appliquéd kitty and embroidered “Hello” for the beloved Hello Kitty print and an appliquéd cherry with the embroidered word “Rickey” for the oh so elusive Cherry Rickey print. These are just a few highlights of the attention to detail in our work. Our goal is that each Stinky Couture™ product is not only a investment in quality, but also a unique artistic expression.

BRRRR…and the snow came.

October 19, 2008

The view from my sewing studio window.

The week before last brought our first snow here in the Rockies. Though beautiful, I shiver at the thought of days ahead when the temperature is well below zero and the power routinely goes out. That said, I relish in the thought of pulling out the family ski gear, as well toasting marshmallows over the fire pit.

I *heart* babai alainn!

babai alainn
(“beautiful baby” in Gaelic, pronounced “bah-bee aw-lin”).

babai alainn is the place to get your beanies for the upcoming winter. After ordering the pictured beanie for my daughter I then asked Marina, creator and designer, if she would kindly make me one to match. Without hesitation Marina accommodated my request. My daughter and I are now ready to trek out into those blustery days while staying warm and stylish. I really cannot say enough about the quality and detail of Marina’s work, and her customer service is delightfully refreshing … I *heart* babai alainn!

How cute will your child be in this adorable beanie! This is our original design, using several different techniques and acrylic yarn to create our unique chunky, textured beanies.

This beanie is full of special details, from the cross stitching around the opening of the beanie, to the big, chunky removable flower clip. Attach the grosgrain-covered flower clip for a girly look (first picture), or remove the flower and wear the brim on the side for a cute, trendy look (second and third pictures)! Each beanie is made with love and care!

Let’s re visit “Tag, we’re IT!”,
an April 10, 2008 Stinky Couture™ blog post.

From it’s conception in 2005, I have nurtured and given great thought to Stinky Couture™. Every detail from packaging, every stitch, and yes, the tag. The Stinky Couture™ tag is unique in design, cut from vintage denim and individually embroidered with “Stinky Couture”, the tag represents quality. When you see the Stinky Couture™ tag, you know that you have a unique, quality item that was sewn just for your Baby as I would sew it for my Baby.

Stinky Couture™ does not sell “seconds”. The occasional “second” is donated tag-less to a women’s shelter for the benefit of women who want to cloth diaper their babies though do not have the means in which do so.

An update about “seconds” : SC will occasionally offer a “second quality” diaper free for the cost of shipping on the Hyena Cart store.

LOVE the feel of it.

October 2, 2008

This custom order was made of a rich designer velour for the outer, organic cotton/bamboo fleece for the inner and organic cotton bamboo velour for the soaker. True to form, this Stinky Couture™ cloth diaper is a unique blend of function and luxury.

Many of the fabrics purchased for Stinky Couture™ are purchased “post production”. Once a designer has completed a production run or samples for a season, the remaining fabric is made available. Often these fabrics are one time purchases and purchased in small amounts. These fabrics can often be spotted in RTW (ready-to-wear) at high end boutiques.

Kennedy, photo submitted by her mama Alyssa.

. . . It was my other kids’ idea to dress her up like a fairy to match the diaper. Madison (her 4 year old sister) offered up her backpack wings and wand. We tried so hard to get her to hold a wand to complete the ensemble, but she just wouldn’t let go of the toy lipstick. We got a great smile on her because Dustin (her 5 year old brother) was behind me playing peek-a-boo, but instead of saying boo he said “Stinky diaper” (meaning she is wearing her Stinky Couture diaper; he just loves the name).
It was quite the family photo shoot, but we had a great time doing it. Looking back at this picture reminds me of passing the afternoon with all of my kids laughing and smiling with each other.
